Bedroom Big Reveal!!!

Cue the trumpets....it's time to reveal the finished project!!!
(well, mostly finished, minus the pictures, etc.).......

Before:

After:

Complete with Sophie

Before:

After (you get the picture...)

If I haven't already shown this picture nearly enough....

And if you remember this wall of wallpapery fantastic-ness......

And Bentley is LOVING his new room!!!! (hahahaha!, I just looked at him, and he is looking a little ragged and a bit homely post his sickliness/IV's in both legs/bad bad haircut via mom who has realized she has no talent as a dog groomer therefore shall revert back to sending him to the crazy lady up the street who kisses him on the mouth (ICK!) and makes homemade dog treats while she chain smokes like a freight train......

And so, my room is complete minus the eventual pictures/finishing touches I will add later as funding and time become more abundant, plus it's time to start working on the guest room! I'm on a deadline!!!! November will be here before I know it!

Bedroom Progress, Part Deux...

Ok, so it is officially time for flooring!!! Woo hoo!

So here are the goods....Williamsburg Cherry Flooring and my Bead Board!!!

Brad, Bill (Brad's dad), Cyrus, and Buddy Butt {Brad ended up with custody of Buddy this weekend}

Brad and his Dad hard at work!

Looking pretty good, eh?
So once the floor was DONE, guess what's next?!? My favorite part!!!!!

Let the bead board-y goodness commence!!!!!!!

So, of course, the bead board is primed which means we still had to paint it once it was up.....guess who got stuck with the painting detail?

Mwah!....Brad's painting job was sooo bad, he was dismissed leaving me to do not one but TWO coats on each piece and groove by hand....can I tell you how bad my arms hurt?!?

See?  This is Brad excited he got fired from painting.....I think he did a bad job on purpose....doesn't this face look guilty?

..............stay tuned for the final reveal!

Thrift Store = Inspiration?

So, who would've thunk that the thrift store could set the spark for my entire room design? Yesterday, I found this great buy at the thrifter for a whole $7.00, in all of its gold glory:

And thanks to a can of Rustoleum spray paint,

My finished product =:

So I am in awe of how the fact that the canary yellow lamp base has inspired my whole guest room motif!!!

These are my thoughts-

Lamp Shade

Duvet Cover:

I could make a duvet cover out of this material by Waverly, or....

I'm completely coveting this Clover duvet cover by West Elm!  And it's only 60 clams! (plus shams of course)

Bed Skirt

I think this pattern would make an awesome bedskirt (found it and all of the other fabrics  here).

Pillows

I'm totally digging these patterns for fun throw pillows:

Headboard

So completely loving the upholstered headboard...plus thanks to all of the blogs I read (I'm completely obsessed with Young House Love....I seriously get made fun of at work because I am constantly on their blog getting immersed in inspiration! I check their blog so much (reading archives, etc.) I almost feel like a blog stalker, can you be a blog stalker to people you've never met but sure you could totally be friends with if you did know them? They have so many great ideas! I have half of our department hooked on their blog now! But anyway, back to the headboard...thanks to YHL and their tips/step by step info, I could totally DIY a headboard like this myself! That is, if Brad's dad would turn me loose on a piece of power equipment.....HA! I could see how that would go, can't you?

A bedroom of my very own!

So the master bedroom is definitely, as my blog's title states, "a work in progress."  My inspiration:  A picture I saw in the Kilz catalog with a Purple room, with beadboard halfway up the wall....completely drool worthy and of course, my computer is not feeling inclined to locate said inspiration picture for your viewing...grrrr.
                          Room Inspiration  (It's the 1st column, 2nd row...labeled "girl's room" hahaha)
Sooo, my goals....
                                 1) Purple walls and white trim....and silly me, realized after the fact I  chose good
ole SCHS colors...go Smoky Bears! Hahahahaha
                             +  2) New laminate flooring
+  3) Bright White Beadboard!!! (I have a sick obsession with beadboardy goodness)
One seriously happy room!!!!!!!!!

Step 1: Remove Wallpaper! I officially loathe the creator of wallpaper.....

Remember? "Before:"

Buh-bye hummingbird border!

Wallpaper be GONE!!

Step 2:  Paint the Ceiling Tiles!

Here's what it looked like before (complete with a yellowish design)

Please note the ceiling fan MATCHES the ceiling!

Brad working on painting the ceiling white

It's white! And looks a million times better!!

Step 3: Prime and Paint Walls

Ok, so this looks like an icky gray color....I swear it's purple!

See? It's purple! Technicaly, it's "Real Raisin" by Kilz

(the color from the Kilz catalog)
Step 4:  Paint the Trim

(Brad's mom, graciously agreed to help me with the painting, and I was basically fired from anything involving detail. So she was in charge of the trim/detail work and I was left with painting the middle.)

Brad's mom working on the trim work (and Cyrus helping.) Obviously, this occurred before the purpleness.

The trim is so nice and WHITE! Ahhhh! I love the cleanliness of white!

Don't the shelves actually look better?!? Ok, well once the trim is nicely finished... Now I'm leaning towards removing the closet doors for some cool curtains...

Ok, now doesn't that look nice?!?

Step 5: Rip up the Carpet!!

Naomi and I completely kicked butt and ripped out the carpet...we are women, hear us "ROAR!!!"

Look what we discovered in the closet!! Rock laminate? For real?

Step 6:  Tackling the Periwinkle Blue Closet That Mimics Pappaw Whaley's Old Truck

So, rather than using spray paint as Mammaw once did on the truck (who doesn't want a
polka-dotted  truck?), I actually thought this would be a really quick project.....I was wrong!
The closet quickly became my arch nemesis!!!!!!!  I started out with a coat of primer-

Not that this picture actually cooperates and shows you, but even after my first coat of primer, the periwinkle blue is still peeking through.

Well, One coat of primer and 4 coats of white paint later.....

 It's finally WHITE!
Up and Coming....

Williamsburg Cherry Laminate Flooring

BEADBOARD BABY!!! Thank you mom! (her gift to me!!)

Stay tuned for the laminate flooring and the beadboard installation!

Won't my bedding (already owned) look great in the purple and white room?!? Maybe someday I could afford real bedroom furniture like this!

I'm drooling over this lamp, but still hoping to find a steal at a yard sale and DIY it/them for cheap!

So imagine the lamp base + this shade from Lowe's = Pretty sweet lamp! RECAP!

Before:

After:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let the progress continue!!!
